From my testing, I'm seeing Minsc or even Hitch as a better alternative than straight up Jarlaxle DPS, but the differences aren't great until later on (higher levels and better items). Even if you have to take a DPS hit for using Jarlaxle as your main damage or in place of a support, his Gold Find should more than make up for doing so - especially for new players. Jarlaxle is a decent DPS, but his main strength is certainly his newfound Gold Find. With a 10-man formation, 54 items can be epic on other champions. This is indeed an ADDITIVE buff, and it's rather small per epic item, but does add up. Master Attuner: Increases the damage of Jarlaxle for each epic item equipped on other champions (additive). Remember, it's only a 2x buff for each ally, so don't kill your formation trying to maximize this one. This is a very large buff for Jarlaxle, and you'll want to get him in the 3 ally range at least. Specialization, level upgrades, and gear can increase the base value of this buff. This effectively means a ~2x buff per champion qualifier from your previous buff. This follows the 1x/3x/7x/15x/31x increase per added champion. Master of Disguise: Jarlaxle gains more damage for each Neutral or Good hero adjacent to him. This is a very large Gold Find buff, especially when you consider the available Rogues and Drow that you can place into formationĪvailable qualifiers: K'Thriss, Regis, Jarlaxle, Diath, Black Viper, Hitch, Drizzt Jarlaxle has a gear slot to enhance this abilityĪ champion will only count once for this buff (A Drow Rogue will not count twice, for instance) This is an ADDITIVE buff with itself, but the resulting total is multiplied into your Gold Find. Master of Piracy: Increases your Gold Find for every Rogue or Drow in formation. This will repeat until Jarlaxle fails to kill, or you are out of targets. If he kills this enemy, he continues to attack. You won't be getting the chance to fool me twice.Base Attack: Jarlaxle attacks the further enemy from the formation. After, of course, you've spent another six months or year grinding. Oh, they offered a "fix" for that.sort of.by allowing players to transfer some of the power granted by paid gear to a different champion, but that's a hollow gesture when there's no guarantee they won't decide whatever champion you transfer that power to is now suddenly OP and the whole thing starts over again.

That all would be bad enough, but the nerfs stripped away the benefit of items that players had paid actual cash for. I bet they're huge fans of unskippable cut-scenes, too.) (In fact, they flat out said part of the reason for one of the nerfs was that too many players weren't seeing and appreciating all their hard work on level design. It tells me that the devs only care about imposing their own playstyles and views on me, with no respect for whether I find them enjoyable. But stripping away power-especially when players can already choose not to use an OP champion if they want more challenge-is a hard no for me.

Adjusting for balance when the player is underpowered? Sure. Personally, I believe there is absolutely no reason to ever nerf a player's power in what is essentially a single-player, non-competitive game. The developers decided that they don't like players focusing on powering up and using a specific handful of champions, and so they nerfed them. I even spent money (more than I should have, tbh) on in-game items, both cosmetic and functional. I started playing almost a year ago, with the introduction of champions from the Oxventurer's Guild, and for most of that time I enjoyed the experience, despite the misleading "idle" in the name.
